I got my Yuletide assignment!

Negative: It requires plot, action, and enough length to make the whole thing work. In one month. Aieeee!

I have great enthusiasm for my fandom, but very few actual ideas, yet. Hopefully a couple of days of research farr may change this.

(Also-- you were one of the people I immediately thought of as a potential beta. Do you think you might be available/interested?)

On the plus side, for the first time since... years... I actually have time to write! I am planning on browsing the prompts spreadsheets too to look for fun stocking stuffers!

OHOH! I just realized I am in LA in early December which means we can write together without being limited by crappy hotel internet or the Great Firewall of China blocking access to things and with more than 12 hours to spare!

Too early to tell. I am experiencing the customary post-assignment panic. But I have notes already! Surely that is a good thing. Even they contain a lot of question marks and all-caps and so on.

I am contemplating writing for a fandom I didn't match on, because it would be exciting and challenging and I could really do something exciting; on the other hand, everything I've thought of so far storywise requires about a year of research and 50k of worldbuilding. Hmm. I am currently trying to have smaller ideas!

I love my assignment because it's something I'd want to read myself. The problem is I have no idea what my hook for the story is yet. Right now I'm just making character notes hoping that something sparks.

Excited! The matched request is just right for me, plus I even got another request I could've offered, and the DYW letter makes it clear that the person likes pretty much all the things that I am good at. Basically, being very choosy about what I offered this year makes it the best Yuletide request I've had.

I am feeling cautiously thrilled; the request I matched on is something I was beginning to believe no one would ever want me to write, but I have stubbornly offered it for three years now. The details are awesome, and ask a lot of the same questions about the characters that I have. I think it could be fun!

I recognize only one of the requested fandoms, but that one's right up my alley. And it's a great plotbunny, too. I even know how to get in some gratuitous nudity without straining. The biggest problem I have at the moment is how to have the adventure -- for it is an adventure yarn that's been requested -- develop naturally out what's already canon, instead of inventing it wholecloth. I think I need to review the series to check if there's something I'm overlooking.

My matched request is an unpleasant combination of way too broad and reasonably specific. Unfortunately, I can't mitigate this by looking at anything else since my recipient doesn't appear to have a journal, let alone a DYW letter. In fact, the only trace of them I can find is their participation in last year's Yuletide.

Right now, I'm holding off on brainstorming and revisiting the canon for one of the other requests. It's a series I don't particularly like, and would never dream of ficcing under normal circumstances, but the request is so much more focused that I may almost have a better chance of pulling it off.

Mine is the last minute offer I made after discovering that my other easy offers were obviously easy for a bunch of other folks, and they hadn't nearly the requests. Not surprising! So this week is going to be massive re-visiting canon; luckily I already have the germs of a story.

(Also have to deal with motherboard on computer fried last night during a neighborhood blackout, sigh.)

Pretty similar, I think! It's a fun request for a fandom I love, requesting characters I am very fond of, and the paucity of details means I get to forge my own path a lot. It's also a fandom that's going to stretch me -- canon is very talky and very plotty, and I can probably avoid the need for lots of plot but not for lots of banter -- as well as one I'm definitely going to have to refamiliarize myself with. But I'm excited about it!
