[personal profile] telophase has created an online YA dystopia generator!

Thrill: Nudity has been banned and the government controls darkness.

Bounce: Heterosexuality has been banned and the government controls popsicles.

Leap: Roads have been banned and the government controls gravity.

I'm sure she's still adding to it, so feel free to suggest titles and things which could be banned or controlled.

That is amazing like an amazing thing. I...want someone to run a flashfiction challenge based on it. :D

Boy: Bird watching has been banned and the government controls llamas.

Ahahahahaha, I love it. And I am a birdwatcher, so I may have to try that one...I imagine people have to shut their eyes whenever a bird flies by, lest a cop see them. Although that seems potentially dangerous for driving ("Officer, I swear I wasn't watching that bird--I just caught an accidental glimpse of it as I tried not to drive into that telephone pole.").

I am not sure why the government is controlling llamas.

Perhaps that is the central mystery of the story. What's so important about llamas?

(Maybe they are actually intelligent aliens and the government fears they will band together with the birds and destroy human civilization.)

Only the Resistance know! The Resistance, and that hot mysterious boy who the heroine saw hiding a pair of binoculars.

hot mysterious boy girl

Can my dystopian YA have lesbians? Dystopian YA is so heteronormative!

I left a comment down below (http://rachelmanija.dreamwidth.org/925475.html?thread=11813667#cmt11813667), but basically, let me know if you're interest in this idea for a community! :D
boundbooks: Zhang Ziyi (kitty goes :D)

From: [personal profile] boundbooks

So...

What, uh, rules would you like it to have? XD

I made some up for a short time, but love of pie, if people are interested, we could get this thing off the ground.

Specifically, I'm looking for people who'd want to mod, participate, suggest rules, or ANY OF THE ABOVE. XD

[community profile] governmentcontrolledcats @ http://governmentcontrolledcats.dreamwidth.org/profile

If there's no interest, I'll just delete the community, but it seems like something that would be super fun to run. :D

I am for realz interested! I like the format you suggested and I will definitely play (how many prompts are in a set?).
boundbooks: Zhang Ziyi (Default)

From: [personal profile] boundbooks

Haha, I'm not sure! I was thinking, um, five? I'm leaning towards five just because they are SO AWESOME! Also, it's so random that I think having more options to pull from would be more fun.

There are just a couple of questions that have to be answered before we can start it:

1) Screened or unscreened comments to prompt posts? Screened would be easiest, unscreened would be more fun. If it's unscreened, would probably have to have a rule like 'Submissions will only be counted if they have the word SUBMISSION in the title'

Subs would be like the title from the prompt and then the original fiction you write? Subject to change as desired? I dunno, we could really have fun with this! :D

How long should these be? 100 words? No minimum word count?

2) Time frame for posting period? Would a week be too long to have the prompts open, or a good amount of time? Time frame for voting period, I'm thinking two days? Basically, should this run every two weeks or every week? SO CONFUSED.

3) Voting should probably not be visible. I'm thinking that after the prompt page closes (Aka comments disabelled), then a day or two later a giant post goes up with all the entries listed by number, and then you get a ticky box thing where you pick your top three entries and submit that?

4) Then two days later (when voting closes), the results are announced?

5) Then a little later, a new set of prompts are published?

6) IDEAS, MY BRAIN! HELP! XD

Thoughts?

Hah, I am happy to let them do it, then. I am definitely not going to try and compete with someone else's enthusiasm!

Hm. Maybe so? Ack, the thinky-thoughts! XD

I can definitely see there being room for a DW one and LJ one, especially if one's a little different in the format than the other. Hm. I shall ruminate on this for a bit. The thing I am thinking of doing aka [community profile] governmentcontrolledcats wouldn't start until early/mid-June, anyhow!

I will participate in the DW one, but probably not the LJ one, and I like your format idea.

...having looked at the LJ comm, yeah, the format you suggested (and the true randomness) is much more like what I was originally thinking of. :-)
boundbooks: Zhang Ziyi (avatar: momo is surprised)

From: [personal profile] boundbooks

I checked out the LJ comm too, and I definitely think that there's enough difference so that the two won't overlap! Both seem like fun ideas, but both seem pretty different.

Glad that you're interested, I'm definitely scribbling down a lot of ideas that I hope will be neat! :D

Definitely different enough!

Yay, I am excited! I will post about it!

hee!

Exit: Garlic has been banned and the government controls gardening.
Dance: Gardening has been banned and the government controls windows.
Pwned: Reading has been banned and the government controls height.
Snicker: Stainless steel has been banned and the government controls speech.
Pwned: Writing has been banned and the government controls sidewalks.

Hmmmm...Pwned came up twice - banning reading clearly won't work unless writing is also banned - and now the government controls height and sidewalks - the plot thickens.

Oh, God, this is brilliant. It's like if the Structuralists wrote YA:

"Sigh: Sadness has been banned and the government controls llamas."

Drag: The name Steve has been banned and the government controls teenagers.

Devour: Long hair has been banned and the government controls teen angst.

Seize: Sex has been banned and the government controls music. (This has to already exist.)

I liked that one, I thought it was poignant.

I've seen some ridiculous bans proposed in real life. How much they're actually enforced once they're put in place, I wonder. Not much, I'd imagine.
