How did you and Sherwood come up with the amazing world building and alternative history (the landscape, the trees, the magical wildlife)?

Oh, and Ross and Jennie are awesome. ^_^ (Okay, that's not a question).

As far as I recall, it was Rachel's original image: she saw Ross being saved by a sheriff with half a skull face and amazing powers. The sherif saved him from chasing bad guys AND a vampire tree. That sounded to me like such awesome story potential and it took off from there. I threw in the crystal trees (they were something I invented as a teen for an art project) and after that we pretty much "what if?" back and forth until the images became storylines.
