That would make sense with the philosophy of the show, which seems very optimistic - it's hard to get people to torture each other is hard ("Getting them to pull teeth is like... what's the phrase?") and despite Michael being able to pull all the strings, they all befriend and support each other instead; the not-that-good people become better and more unselfish and gain self-knowledge even in a situation literally designed to bring out their worst qualities; Michael's concluding master plan requires separating them lest they do that all over again. It feels like a universe where the Devil isn't actually in control.
