Absolutely fantastic. Do not click on cut unless you've already seen it. The whole series is streaming on nbc.com.

The sitcom as sitcom metaphor continues: now we get to see into the writer's room, as Michael the show runner tries to wrangle his unruly team, complete with actors who want a better role and dimwits who can't take a note, while answering to network executives who don't get his vision and want everything to be the same as the every other show, and is also frantically trying to make season 2 surpass season 1. One of my very favorite bits that works on both an in-show and theatre-meta level is Demon Real Eleanor's inevitable fallback of the actor desperate for attention, the ostentatious limp.

The new tortures were absolutely hilarious. My favorite was Jason getting stuck in a yogurt (yurt for short) with a silent, rice-eating dude following him everywhere.

The demons crack me up. I mentioned Real!Eleanor!Demon, but the shirt-whips-off guy was also hilarious. And props to the wardrobe department for making that gag so funny, as it's partly the speed that makes it. Similar props to editing for Janet's perfectly timed and choreographed appearances and disappearances.

Last season clearly had a subconscious impact on the characters. Eleanor not only catches on much faster, she recognizes Jason's "It's a prank show" as the truth rather than dismissing it due to who said it, as she did the first time. She's also got WAY better impulse control, as we see when she repeatedly turns down offers of booze. Jason and Janet still have their bond - the scene where they connect was genuinely sweet. For that matter, all four still have a bond, even if they don't consciously know it. Eleanor is freely hitting on Tahani, when it previously took her all season to realize that wasn't just a joke. Jason realizes much faster that he won't be able to stand keeping up the role.

I have no idea where this is going on an episode-to-episode basis, except that I still think that this may actually be Purgatory and Michael, unknown to himself, is also being put through the wringer with the intention of getting him to be a better person. I suspect that the end of the season will have him forced to team up with the humans to maintain the charade lest they all be sent to the Bad Place.

Not clicking on cut but I am STOKED. Now I am screaming inside because I have to wait for Joe to get home so we can all watch it together, Dragon included! :D

That was so much fun! The new torture methods were great, and seeing behind the scenes of the set-up adds such a wonderful extra meta dimension. Poor demons, it's just so much easier to torture humans the old-fashioned way. It was nice how quickly the gang got together again :) I don't dare to come up with theories (yet) but I really look forward to this season.

It was so enjoyable! And it really functioned well as a second season premiere. It had a lot of the stuff that made the first season so good, but the way the episode ended made me wish I could watch the next episode immediately.

It was so good! I marathoned the whole thing right after the first season finale, so waiting for new episodes is going to be its own kind of terrible torture. *shakes fist*

Oh yay, I was hoping someone on my flist would post thoughts!

I was kind of taken aback by how swift the pace was… I was expecting it to feel like the first season in that regard, and now I don't really know what to expect at all! (I sure wasn't expecting them to reboot the reboot at the end of the season premiere!)

I am very intrigued… but I hope we still get some more in-depth character stuff and that it's not all wacky metaphysical hijinks from here on out.

It was so fun! The guy who wants to bite things and Eleanor's shirt-ripping soulmate were my faves.

I AM DELIGHTED. I love how clear it was that they all still have that subconscious bond, even if they don't remember -- also how Michael's attempts to play very even more obviously on everyone's insecurities and weak points flipped so immediately on him. (Tahani's speech!! Bless.)

I loved it! I'm so pleased they kept all the character development from the first season even if they don't know it - especially Jason treating Janet like a person - and that Michael's attempts to torture them were so blatant that they all broke out. The demon actors' discontent is great, too. No idea where this season is headed, but I'm here for it!

Ooh! I saw season 1 and didn't realise season 2 was so soon. I wasn't sure if they'd be able to keep things going strong from there, but that sounds like a good reaction! (I didn't read the post or the comments, except to skim the first sentences for general tone.)

All I can really do is pray at this point that Mindy will show up in the medium place (or somewhere, who knows) again. That's the only thing that would make this more sublime. I was blown away by that actress and the writing for the character.

What an episode! I loved it. The pace was breakneck and yet the beats were all there. I am so looking forward to this season.

This is exactly what I think is happening, too! And I love that even with their memories wiped, it seemed like the characters retained their growth from S1 underneath it all. Can't wait to see where the show goes from here.

I am definitely requesting this show for Yuletide, but I'm stumped for how to craft a good request for a live canon that's moving this fast, and this unpredictably. But I'm so excited it's back, and still SO good.

So fun! So twisty! I half expected Michael to claim that Tahani was the one out of place, but no. I did love that Tahani was waaay more bitchy in this one. "Short!"

It really was so well done. I can't wait to see what happens next. (And I really liked bitey guy. That may be because I would BE bitey guy.)

I just got caught up. This show is brilliant! What a twist in the last episode! I figured something was off all along (the clowns were the first hint) but it just kept getting better and better, especially when it veered into real sitcom territory, like everybody laughing themselves sick at that stupid twist on nobody's perfect.

Then Michael's maniacal laugh, the snap of the fingers . . . the first episode of the new season built on it beautifully, the demons were hilarious, the tortures even more hilarious, and I loved the subtle difference in the four. Wow. Now Michael is on the hot seat--I wondered too if he was being set up.

I hope Mindy comes back. She was such a crackup.

I love the way the four were fit together in 2/1. And Jason's yoghurt guy with the rice was cracking me up. The yak milk!
