Read a couple chapters last night. Why did no review (that I read) mention that it's funny? Not the same kind of funny as Joe Lansdale's Bad Chili, which I also read a couple chapters of, but quite hilarious in a dry, understated manner. Anyone, I'm taking those two, plus To Love and Be Wise and a Special Bonus Book to be decided upon ten minutes before leaving named later.

Ah, yes, JS&MN is quite funny - I loved that about it.

(Still too long, though, but that's my problem)

It was funny in bits, but I couldn't make it through the whole thing, so I never posted a review.

The humor was very much my favorite part (the system of magic actually sort of bugged me), and though it fades out a bit at the end, there are some really excellent parts.

For one thing, the reviews never mention Thackeray as one of the influences on the style, which would have been a good tip-off. She's totally nailed that "Why are you laughing? I'm just telling you what happened" humor.
