I really enjoyed the novel. To be fair, I didn't find Andevai as annoying as you did, possibly because I suspect his redemption arc is going to be slow and painful: generally, Elliott really makes her characters work hard for that sort of thing. And I second your glee about the world-building. I recall calling it a "post-colonial icepunk mashup" in my review.
That said, these are new waters for Elliott--she's basically going after the YA-romance audience while trying not to lose too much of her complexity, and it's a fine line to walk. I hope it works for her, because I really enjoyed this one. (My only concern is that she may not get back to the "Crossroads" universe, which I also really enjoyed.)
