Fourteen gorgeous Kimono Jackets for sale!

ETA: This is being decided by auction. The auction begins now. It will conclude on Friday, April 6, at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. Please get your bids in by then. This post has been updated with bidding links below the photos.

Sherwood Smith, who got to try some of them on, offers this testimonial (from memory): "The photos don't do justice to how beautiful they are. The fabrics are so silky and luxurious!"

To help fund my trip, I am selling some beautiful haori (kimono jackets) I bought in Japan. They can be worn with a kimono, or over pants or a skirt or dress.

Detailed photos below cut. $50 each unless otherwise noted. You pay postage, probably $5-$10. I will ship internationally, but shipping costs may be quite high.

Please comment to say which you would like. Ideally, note your first preference, second preference, and third preference. Please say so if you'd like more than one.

I will try to sort it out fairly so everyone gets one they want. If necessary, I may put some up for auction.

With two exceptions (noted with description), they are 30 inches long and 22 inches in shoulder width. Cloth is probably synthetic unless otherwise stated, but really nice, luxurious-feeling synthetic.

2. Black with metallic designs on back, orange flower interior.

3. Purple geometric, crane interior

PULLED. I forgot to reserve one for my mom. Oops.

4. Long, pine trees. This one is longer than the rest: 3 feet in length, 2 feet across the shoulders.

SOLD. I promised Sherwood first pick of the jackets. She looks fantastic in it.

5. Golden-beige, watercolor flowers. Not sure the photos really do this one justice. It's exquisite. The flowers look painted in watercolor.

6. Green with little flowers. The color got washed out in the photo - it's a nice medium-green.

7. Black with red flowers and green leaves. The colors got washed out here too. The flowers are red shading to orange, and the interior is done in delicate pastel shading.

8. Green leaves. Colors washed out. The leaves are hunter green, medium green, and light green.

9. Black with landscape. Amazing interior. I'm pricing this one a bit higher, at $60. If no one wants it, I'll keep it.

10. Black with embossed seals, chrysanthemum interior.

11. Brown and colored feather and heart pattern; person interior. Really cool design, and I'm pretty sure it's silk. $60 for being just that nice.

12. Black with cut-outs. This unusual jacket has small but elaborate cut-outs on front and back, showing a blue and red cloth interior.

13. Damaged, extra-long. Black with rope interior and metallic exterior. 3 feet long, wide shoulders. This otherwise beautiful jacket has a small moth-eaten hole at the left front bottom, which I somehow missed or I wouldn't have bought it. If you know how to patch or darn, this is a great deal. The interior has gold dusting in the center of the designs. $25.

14. Black with metallic abstract mountains and clouds.

Ooh, gorgeous! I would love the golden-beige with flowers, or - if someone's already got that, the green leaves one.

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, these are exquisite. I want that pine one, and possibly the golden one (five) though because it's beige and I am sallow, it might make me look dead. Then either 7,10, or 14--I love all those, but already I'm being greedy, so if someone else grabs those, I'll take the one they don't want.

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I'll give it a couple days to let everyone place their requests, then sort it all out.

I could probably give you yours in person, if you like.

Thanks! I'll give it a couple days to let everyone place their requests, then sort it all out. Ideally, we will be able to get together so you can try some on first.

The only reason I'm not keeping the gold one for myself is that I don't look good in that color.

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I might not, either. (still waiting for B to get home so I can find out which days he doesn't have class or karate.)

Making my list, but: I think you should keep the Black with landscape! It reminds me of the mushi-painted jacket in Mushishi.

[identity profile] innocentsmith.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
That'd be great! Maybe we could get together for lunch sometime.

Okay, POUNCING! I would love one of the following, in descending order:

4. Long, pine trees.

5. Golden-beige, watercolor flowers.

8. Green leaves.

6. Green with little flowers.

[identity profile] em-h.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my. They are beautiful (especially 5(!), 10 and 2), but I really should not spend the money, especially once shipping is factored in. Besides which, I would probably vanish inside them. Must ... restrain ... self ...

[identity profile] vonniek.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty! Are these one-size-fits-all? I'm sorta short and puny (5'3") and I wonder of they'd just swallow me whole...

Still, I'd love to own one! My preference in descending order:

1. #6, green with little flowers
2. #11 the fancy purple-brown one!
3. #5 Golden beige flower
4. #2 Black with metallic patterns

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, they're one size fits all - and probably intended to be worn by women about your size, anyway. I am three inches shorter than you, and I have a couple.

I am six feet tall and now paranoid I'll look like I'm wearing a shrunk-in-the-wash doll jacket, hmm. (For this reason crop jackets as a fashion need to DIE.)

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Measure yourself to see how low it'll fall. In terms of width, they're very forgiving and roomy.

[identity profile] marzipan-pig.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
I like green-with-little-flowers but fear I am probably too short-and-wide.

[identity profile] bunnybutt.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Linked over from an FL of a FL, hope that's ok -

I'd like one of the following:

2, 7, 12, 14

if you think they would fit up to a size 12? It's for a gift, I'm not picky about which of the four options I'd end up with, size is more important.

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, that's completely fine.

I think that's fine; they're pretty roomy. But if anyone who knows sizes better than me would like to chime in, please do so.

[identity profile] mme-hardy.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
1. #14, the black with mountains and clouds.
2. #4, the pine trees

Shall we all mud wrestle?

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'll do a first pass to see if any people can be given an uncontested or little-contested favorite. After that, I might put the most-contested up for auction.

[identity profile] mme-hardy.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
If you put them up to auction, I suspect you'll raise more money for your trip (because non-friends will bid). That's a good thing.

[identity profile] mscongeniality.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
I would be interested in either 7 or 14, but would consider another based on demand.

[identity profile] slrose.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I would be interested in either 11 or 8, if they are not already claimed by someone else.

[identity profile] loligo.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I would happily buy the damaged one. (Even if I can't fix it to my satisfaction, Chuckles will be thrilled with it.)

[identity profile] clodia-risa.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no idea what anyone else has put a claim in for.

I'm interested in 10, 7, 6, in that order (although I'd be happy with any of the three). I'm only planning on buying one of them.

Thank you for this, and for trying to sort this out fairly!

[identity profile] jinian.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel silly for buying any since I'll be in Japan in six months, but oh my lord the threadwork. Put me down for #12, please!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I was coming to the comments to mention that she should check for mushi before deciding to keep it.
