It starts out as horror and pretty disturbing horror at that, but once it his the point of Ultimate Disturbing, it then it goes in a completely different direction and becomes a fantasy adventure with flappers and complicated sister relationships and a very satisfying, extremely non-depressing ending. It might still hit some of your specific squicks/triggers (see Recessional above) but if you're OK having read my spoilers, it probably won't.
