Yes! I think you specifically would like this one, even if you don't read anything else by him. The entire book is an intense encounter with a vividly depicted natural environment.

I haven't read the Gloss book yet. It's been on my to-read list for ages. I bounced off her Quakers in Space book but I gather that her books are all pretty different from each other.
