I may be additionally influenced by having weird luck, so me taking normal measures to do normal stuff doesn't guarantee that they'll work. I mean even more than is normally the case for everyone. I can fill up my tank, but I may still not get there because a tree fell across the road, the hills caught fire, I had to stop and assist the dude who had to self-amputate, etc. In which case I at least want to be able to think, "Welp, nothing I could've done to avoid that."
I do really hate looking back and thinking that something bad that happened was my fault, though. I'm actually motivated much more by not wanting to blame myself than by not wanting others to blame me. (Others will blame me anyway. Women get blamed for existing.)
