I remember this book from when I was a preteen! I do not remember it being this batshit! My memories were ONLY of the lead fortunetelling (which I think I found creepy) and the earrings (which I thought were pretty). Thanks for the recap, it brought back some fun recollections of reading this during summer vacation.
