I read your whole post and then went and picked up the book... I generally don't mind spoilers, I find it useful information to help me not waste my time if I wouldn't like something. So I thought I knew what I was in for AND THEN I DID NOT, holy fuck that ending! Didn't see that coming at all, I had already written the other narrative in my head and so it was devastating and effective as a denouement.
