Gotta say I always really enjoyed that aspect of Card's books. I'm glad I read a bunch of them way before I knew anything about him personally.

I agree, Speaker for the Dead is kind of the good version of The Sparrow. Not that it doesn't have its own flaws, but the themes and SF content are way better integrated and the moral dilemmas regarding the aliens are more thought-provoking.
