If you do take a Waters book, I'd recommend Tipping the Velvet over Fingersmith. Fingersmith will keep utterly enraptured for the first hundred pages, but then it goes to hell. Tipping the Velvet isn't as absorbing, but it doesn't fall apart as badly.

Wow. I can't imagine feeling more differently about a book. I became more involved with F'smith as the book went on. I loved Tipping, too, but F'smith -- wow.

I am incoherent this afternoon, sorry.

I am leaning toward Tipping the Velvet because it sounds more cheerful and like it might have sex that isn't followed by something horrifying happening, which is more up my alley at the moment.

Why do I love thee? Let me count the ways:

1. Because you get all my jokes.

PS. I have some Naruto characters I am pretty sure I bought for you. I am not sure who they are. Can you tell me who they are and if they're actually from Naruto?

A girl with four blonde pigtails, holding a fan.

A guy with pointy ninja headgear, red warpaint, and either a grenade or a mutant pineapple.

A guy with spiky blue hair, holding a Hello Kitty mask.

Thank you.

You get all of mine too.

Re: Naruto characters, and yes, they are all from Naruto.

Girl with pigtails and fan: the character I cosplay, Temari, one of the trio of antagonist-ish young ninjas from the Sand Village who turn up in the ninja exams. Pics of me as her will be up when I post more from the con, for my fan makes me very happy.

Guy with red paint: another of same trio, Kankurou. The red paint is a traditional design from bunraku, and that is all I am going to say about him.

Guy with mask: hm. Two possibilities, both appallingly spoilery. I'd like the figure no matter which of them it turns out to be, though. ^_^ And yes, it does look like a Hello Kitty mask, doesn't it.

I read Great and Terrible. I wound up skimming the next two-thirds. Eh.

I take back my previous votes! You should read the Libba Bray and Angel Sanctuary because I've read them and I want to see what you think. Er. Of course this is completely for my benefit.

Although I do think you'll enjoy the sheer on-crack-ness that is Angel Sanctuary and the angels and incest and wings and reincarnation of doom!
