Heroes-- blogged LIVE!

Oh, man, this is just the teaser, and I love it already.

ETA: The pace of revelations in this episode is incredible-- I think more has been revealed in half an hour than in two seasons of Lost, and it's GOOD revelations, unpredictable and cool.

ETA: And it keeps getting better! OMG cranes!!!

People getting mind-controlled can be sure-fire comedy-- see SPN's "Simon Said"-- but "You really want to eat donuts now" cracked me up. And cue meeting of Irresponsible Fuck-up Eden with Silent Possibly Haitian Guy!

And hello, probably-Sylar, Mr. watch repairman who will shortly be poking around in the innermost workings of human skulls rather than watch casings.

Hiro's expression before the commercial break is to die for.

Break.

Hmm, wonder if that's the party where the drunkenness occurs that causes the car crash.

Wow, Eden has quite the record. But now I am really hoping that when Silent Possibly Haitian Guy speaks, he actually has a dorky valley-boy accent, and that's why he prefers to stand around and stare silently at people.

Hiro speaks to Hiro! Look out, space-time continuum! It's moments like this that really make the show.

Break.

I bet when we next see Hiro, his English is six months worth of better.

Wow, so Jessica was Niki's dead sister? And her father (I think that was her father?) is evil? Probably a child abuser?

OMG so THAT's how the accident happened! OMG! I love it! So crazy and outrageous and unpredicable, yet logical.

Also, I am mildly interested that Papa Petrelli is in the Mafia or something, but very interested in Peter's prophetic dream. He shouldn't be able to do that unless someone was near him.

Break.

The cranes were the loveliest romantic gesture ever. And the hug was so sweet! I want to see Hiro and Memory Waitress in Tokyo together!

But wait, Memory Waitress didn't know Hiro when she met him in the present timeline, so this all makes what we're seeing with them an alternate timeline, not the past. Unless one of the several memory-wipers on this show got to her.

Niki/Jessica is a better actress than I thought at first, because I am never confused as to whether it's Niki or Jessica, even at a single glance at her face. So... sister-Jessica was killed by their father? And then Niki borrows money from the mob because Jessica trashed evil Dad's check.

Break.

Wait, I thought Hiro and Memory Waitress were going to go to Japan? Or were the tickets for somewhere else?

Oh, man. Poor Memory Waitress. Poor Hiro.

I am now wondering just how sequential this episode was, even not counting Hiro's time-hopping. I had thought Mr. Bennet knew how to find the heroes by talking to Mohinder's Dad, but the scene where they met came after the scene where he brought in Eden.

Break.

Oh, poor Hiro.

Preview: THEY BETTER NOT HURT MY HIRO! OR CLAIRE!

We didn't see Isaac's origin, nor DL discovering his power. (THEY BETTER NOT HURT DL EITHER!) Sad to say, I think I could survive the loss of Isaac.

Oh, you're saying he is wossname, Forrest's buddy (Graham?) in Buffy, And You Claim Your Five Pounds? That makes so much sense. Especially if turns out he is friends with DL. *snicker*

very interested in Peter's prophetic dream. He shouldn't be able to do that unless someone was near him.

That is an interesting point. Side question: Is it prophetic if it is in real-time? Note that Peter also knew when his girlfriend's father died, also pretty much in real-time, and apparently was even in some kind of communication with him.

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, technically it would be clairvoyant. I remember that now! Perhaps Peter has a sort of low-level clairvoyance through dreams, in addition to power-borrowing.

Obviously, what's-his-name painter guy has been shooting heroin in the next door apartment.

[identity profile] thomasyan.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
I had thought Mr. Bennet knew how to find the heroes by talking to Mohinder's Dad, but the scene where they met came after the scene where he brought in Eden.

When he was talking to Isaac, I thought Mr. Bennet said that they've known about heroes for 12 years, but heroes don't always take being approached so well. One example being the death of Claire's parents. Then again, I had thought Sylar was sort of a patient-zero, and this episode suggests otherwise.

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this episode blew a lot of my theories right out of the water. I thought Sylar was patient zero, too. But I was right that he steals other heroes' powers, and I still think it's by eating their brains.

[identity profile] thomasyan.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
I was right that he steals other heroes' powers, and I still think it's by eating their brains.

Yup. But here's what I don't understand. Sylar says telekinetic-guy is broken. How does eating his brain fix him? For a while, I wondered if they would make out Sylar to be a sympathetic guy, driven by hunger. And at the start of the episode, I was willing to go that way. By the end, no way. He's psycho, and happy to be that way.

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
I think Sylar thought he was taking the guy's useful parts and using them to repair/improve himself.

[identity profile] thomasyan.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
If so, I would have been happier if we'd seen him salvage parts from one watch to fix another (or, did we, and I missed it?) or if he'd muttered to himself, "I'm broken" or "We're broken". Instead, he said the other guy was broken.

[identity profile] habiliments.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think he eats the brains. I think ... well, when he bashes Brian Davis in the head, he's saying something about how he can see it, he's broken. And then he puts on his special watch-fixing magnifying glasses. So I think he looks into their brains and sees how they work - he obviously has some weird power; he could hear the slowness of Chandra's watch's tick. And then - this is where it gets murky - I think he somehow makes his brain like that of the person he kills. Like he dissects them, then applies what he learns to himself somehow.

Maybe.

It's weird how he looks like an unfinished, sort of doughy version of the latest Superman.

[identity profile] thomasyan.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Memory Waitress didn't know Hiro when she met him in the present timeline, so this all makes what we're seeing with them an alternate timeline, not the past.

I'm not confident they can explain away the lack of continuity. I wondered if Charlie in the present was faking not knowing Hiro, but I don't think there's any support for that. So, besides not knowing him, her Japanese also wasn't good enough if she'd had that booklet for half a year, given how quickly she was shown to pick it up.

OMG wasn't the ep. awesome?! I LOVE the explanation of the accident, it's so insane but it makes so much sense, and it makes Nathan's behavior re: his flying powers make so much sense!

And all the Claire-Mr. Bennet connections!

I wonder if Mr. Bennet already knows about speshul people before Mohinder's dad calls him up; maybe he just didn't know about Claire? Because he seemed to accept it really fast, all things considered.

I have no idea what they're going to do with the space-time continuum.

Also, they had better not touch Hiro or Claire! And I may be really angry if they kill off Niki/Jessica or Eden too!

I am so glad that Eden is getting really cool, especially considering how annoying she was at first.

I was assuming that the episode was sequential, so Mr. Bennet was already looking into the mutants before Mohinder's dad calls him. (Damn! Now I can't remember Mohinder's dad's name. Sh- something, I think.)

I totally retract everything I said about the Petrelli brothers being boring together. I love watching them together, they're great. I am just so immensely fond of Peter after last week. And he can't die because he has to acquire the scar future Hiro mentioned. Unless future Hiro was from an alternate future.

I am deeply opposed to the deaths of Hiro, Claire, and now Peter. And also Nikki/Jessica and Micah. Micah is not allowed to die.

Isaac can go, despite being the only Latino character we've got so far. He's still boring. Sorry, Isaac.

Eden is so much more interesting when she's kind of evil.

I assume, since his last name is Mendez.

[identity profile] laurashapiro.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah! I don't remember having heard his last name. Good to know.

[identity profile] coffeeandink.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
No, Suresh is the last name; I think his first name is either Shandra or Chandra.

[identity profile] thomasyan.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I suck at Asian names. I should have checked with IMDB. But I see that Rachel has already confirmed his name as Chandra.

Aw, I was hoping IMDB would list whose face they used for Chandra's photograph on the book jacket in one episode. I noticed that they'd switched from the current actor to a new face and then they switched back. (I rather doubt that, like in the Harry Potter books, people can move around in pictures. :)

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Chandra Suresh.

I second all your "May not dies," and add DL. I have gotten very attached to DL. And, depending on how they're defining "hero," Ando! Ando must live! And Mr. Bennet! And I don't want to lose Eden now that she's gotten interesting, and Nathan is involved in some cool plotlines and is fun when he's with Peter. Plus I like watching him fly.

Agreed, I wouldn't mourn too much for Isaac. And I am still not particularly attached to Telepathic Cop... um... Matt, isn't it?

Of course, the "a hero will die" could refer to some minor character who is technically a hero, like Sad Radioactive Guy or Silent Possibly Haitian Guy.

[identity profile] coffeeandink.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I am fond of DL and also it would be bad for Micah if his dad died. Especially if his mom/aunt killed him.

I don't think Mr. Bennet is a hero, but I do not want him to die. I love watching him interact with Clare.

Matt is still really boring. I don't see how anyone can put up with him for anything but residual fondness for the actor, who is often charming. He can stick around if he gets a divorce and spends a lot of time on cases with Clea Duvall.

Or a hero could die and come back, which would not shock me.

[identity profile] habiliments.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I worry about Eden as Nora Zehetner (sp?) is a Special Guest Star in the credits. And I liiiiike her and do not want her to die. But she's so very useful that she could become a plot liability.

Personally I wish Clea Duvall's Annoying Brassy Cop was a hero so she could be the one to kick it.

Hee! I think his dad's name is Chandra (as stolen off of other people's Heroes posts).

I think I'm going to be really mad if the Petrelli brothers die too, or Heidi (no more dead women for angst please!), because they're really fun now! Micah is also totally not allowed to die.

I wish they'd do more with Isaac; he seems like he could be very interesting. Right now I'm going to pretend that he and Eden are going to have some sort of interesting storyline.

[identity profile] coalescent.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
I can't watch it until this evening! *cries*

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2006-11-28 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you didn't read any of my post, then!

No, I sort of squinted-and-scrolled to preserve my innocence.

I think "Great Scott!" was my favourite bit. That or the cranes.

Bwah! Brilliant! I hope you're right. (:

And that's an excellent point about Charlie maybe having had her memory wiped, although I'd argue that the other waiter in the diner would have to have had her memory wiped as well.
