I haven’t commented before because I really hate sharing my life online, but recent events have made me realise I should reach out a little more, and tell people what they mean to me. So in the spirit of openness, I wanted to tell you that I have been reading your posts just about since the internet began. You introduced me to my first fandom, Saiyaku, and I have to say I have never looked back. Without you, I probably wouldn’t even know what fandom was. Your story Autumn Gold has stuck in my mind for years and years. It twists the knife in my heart in the best way.
I’ve really enjoyed your book reviews, you have introduced me to some fantastic authors, and given me an even longer list of people to avoid. Good or bad, I have found your posts fair and accurate as well as highly entertaining.
In fact, all of your blog entries are entertaining. Who else could have the tag “fowl of doom” and use it twenty times? But I am also gripped by things like “what to do in an earthquake”, a subject which has no relevance to me. I am gripped and I remember your posts, and that has to be the sign of a really good writer.
I would like to share with you my love of the romance author Madeline Brent. This is the pseudonym of Peter O’Donnell, of the Modesty Blaise books. Have you read any? In particular “Stormswift” which has every single romance cliche in one book. I’m going to do a reread soon and this time I’m going to sit down and count them. Somehow it still manages to be one of my favourite books.
So thank you for brightening my life, introducing me to manga, making me think deeper about PTSD and giving me that moment of recognition when somebody else loves the things (books) you love. I give you my best wishes.
