If you do take a Waters book, I'd recommend Tipping the Velvet over Fingersmith. Fingersmith will keep utterly enraptured for the first hundred pages, but then it goes to hell. Tipping the Velvet isn't as absorbing, but it doesn't fall apart as badly.

I take back my previous votes! You should read the Libba Bray and Angel Sanctuary because I've read them and I want to see what you think. Er. Of course this is completely for my benefit.

Although I do think you'll enjoy the sheer on-crack-ness that is Angel Sanctuary and the angels and incest and wings and reincarnation of doom!
