After spending much of the day at the Borders travel section, I think I would rather go to Italy, which is also the cradle of Western civilization and does not involve boats. This is partly the responsibility of a helpful clerk who said, "If you're thinking of Italy, you should take a look at this." This (which I didn't buy as I had neglected to bring my credit card, so don't recall the title) was a food guide to Italy. The list of forty common flavors of gelato (watermelon, cantaloupe, blood orange, hazelnut, chocolate with hazelnut chunks, milk chocolate blended with hazelnuts, chocolate truffle, honey with pine nuts, red currant, black currant, peach, pistachio, sweet cream, etc), which can also be ordered semifreddo (blended with whipped cream) may have been what tipped me over.

I think for my next trip, though, I would like to go to Greece and also Istanbul.

By the way, if I take the first book of Dorothy Dunnett's Niccolo series, will it drive me crazy if I don't have the rest? I'm a little reluctant to take five enormous books when they don't come as widely recommended as the Lymond series.
