Panel 1: Fri 8/25 10:00 AM, 60 minutes.
Title: KAFFEKLATSCH: Rachel Manija Brown
Participants: Rachel Manija Brown [rachelphoenix2@yahoo.com]
This is sort of a meet-the-author thing, right? Yikes. I have not written any science fiction or fantasy that anyone has read/seen; no one will show up.
----------------------------------------
Panel 2: Fri 8/25 11:30 AM, 60-90 minutes.
Title: FORGOTTEN FAVORITES OF CHILDHOOD
Participants: Janet Wilson Anderson
K. A. Bedford
Rachel Manija Brown [rachelphoenix2@yahoo.com]
Garth Nix
Amy Thomson(M)
Precis: What books and stories do you remember best from childhood?
Our panelists talk about their favorites and ask about
yours.
Woo-hoo! I get to meet Garth Nix!
----------------------------------------
Panel 3: Fri 8/25 2:30 PM, 60-90 minutes.
Title: OCTAVIA BUTLER: HER WORKS & LIFE
Participants: Rachel Manija Brown [rachelphoenix2@yahoo.com]
Leslie Howle
Elizabeth Anne Hull
Mary A. Turzillo
Mark von Schlegell(M)
Precis: A discussion of the works and life of the late and much
lamented Octavia Butler.
I feel like they could have gotten more qualified people than me for this panel, but I will re-read and ponder.
----------------------------------------
Panel 4: Fri 8/25 4:00 PM, 60-90 minutes.
Title: ANIME 101
Participants: Rachel Manija Brown [rachelphoenix2@yahoo.com]
Fred Patten
Wendy Pini
Tom Schaad(M)
Precis: Ten years ago, it was being called "Japanimation" and its
viewership was limited. Now, it's the hottest thing in
animation with some of the best-rated shows on television
anime imports. Hundreds of different titles are being sold
on DVD. What made the audiences take notice? How is anime
different from American and European animation?
Wendy Pini, of the legendary Elfquest which I have still not read, and I have no idea who anyone else is. The panel description is boring as hell, but I think it could be livened up if we get into discussing narrative conventions and structures.
----------------------------------------
Panel 5: Sat 8/26 10:00 AM, 60-90 minutes.
Title: ANIME GIRLS
Participants: Rachel Manija Brown [rachelphoenix2@yahoo.com]
Paul Cornell
James Hay(M)
Fred Patten
Tom Schaad
Precis: How did Japan's male dominant culture produce so many
kick-butt female characters? Did Japanese anime creators
develop the concept themselves, or did they all watch lots
of Avengers episodes when they were young?
Could they possibly have crammed more annoying statements into two questions? And why am I the only woman on the panel?
----------------------------------------
Panel 6: Sat 8/26 2:00 PM, 60 minutes.
Title: AUTOGRAPHING: Rachel Manija Brown
Participants: Rachel Manija Brown [rachelphoenix2@yahoo.com]
I have not written any science fiction or fantasy that anyone has read/seen; no one will show up. Also, am I supposed to provide the books? Who would be carrying my memoir? Project Blue Rose, alas, is unlikely to be ready by then.
----------------------------------------
Panel 7: Sat 8/26 4:00 PM, 60 minutes.
Title: READING: Rachel Manija Brown
Participants: Rachel Manija Brown [rachelphoenix2@yahoo.com]
I have not written any science fiction or fantasy that anyone has read/seen; no one will show up. I suppose I could read fantasy-related article, but I am more inclined (should anyone show up) to read from the memoir and at least be amusing.
