I finally came up with an outline for the first arc (six or so volumes) of Project Blue Rose. It helped once
telophase pointed out to me that unlike Butterfly Kick, the first story arc would have no room for character development if I attempted to squish it into three volumes. So six it is.
telophase was also helpful in other ways:
Me: I need a sort of side-story for PBR, a stand-alone-ish X-Files-ish mission for Rivas and Jordan. Give me some kind of scrap of an idea...
telophase: [fifty or so helpful thoughts, including...] Does the Institute go in when there's weird phenomena that nobody takes seriously and sees if there's anything mroe than mass hysteria, hoaxes, or garden-variety crazy at work? What about neo-Nazis in compounds? :D Does the Institute think that if they'd been allowed to take care of the David Koresh brouhaha that it would ahve turned out much better and much quieter, or do they not bother with that sort of thing.
Me: You know, I like that idea. Yes! A cult! A cult is good!
So their first stand-alone non-arc mission is investigating a cult leader who claims to be a fallen angel. I figure, any manga can benefit from an angel, even a possibly fake cult leader con man angel. And also, I don't feel that I've exhausted everything I know or have to say about cults.
Anyway, you all (other than
telophase) have no idea how long I've been struggling with this outline. Whew.
So, for you fans of the series, (um, I hope there are fans of the series!) this pitches to basically everywhere but Tokyopop in September. (This isn't a hate-on for Tokyopop; they saw a very early version a long time ago, and did not see its potential.) If it gets picked up, we will begin by expanding the doujinshi story into 150 pages, with more character interaction and backstory, and then continue from there.
