Do to a lack of publicity, I think I only sold about three copies of All the Fishes Come Home to Roost at the Book Festival that were not to people who knew me. I was also annoyed to see that the trade paperback, which just came out today, a) kept the original blurbs on the back cover rather than using any review quotes, which to me would indicate that the book didn't get any good reviews, b) did not print my bio! Argh! There are blank pages at the end which they could have printed it on, but didn't! I am going to see if this can be corrected for the second printing, should there be one, but I am annoyed.
However, the bookstore owner who sponsored my appearance wants to do another signing, this time with publicity (which I will follow up on personally since things tend to not happen otherwise) and a reading, on October 29, at which day I will be thirty-three. As one of my old professors mournfully put it, "Jesus died on the cross when he was my age." (I gift-wrapped a box of nails for him.)
But one thing did happen which may make the entire thing worth while, which is that I met a guy in charge of a program at Antioch, Santa Barbara, who said he could introduce me to someone at Antioch, Los Angeles, in case I could teach writing there. That would be terrific. The LA campus is in Culver City-- my neighborhood!
