For those of you who heard the news, yes, portions of Southern California are on fire. I think there's only been one death so far, but enormous property damage.
I'm fine. The fires are not going to come anywhere near where I live, barring some totally new catastrophe.
The light outside is yellow. Everything is ever so slightly the wrong color, and the air is ever so slightly hard to breathe. It's like living on a planet that's close to Earth-norms, but not Earth. There's an orange-gray haze to the south-east, but the rest of the sky is clear blue or lightly clouded.
No ash is falling.
I'm going to call the Red Cross to see if they want any volunteers-- I was a disaster relief worker for them for a year, about eight years ago-- but I really doubt it. I call them every time there's a disaster, and they have never wanted me yet. They suck.
