I am in a cafe with Yoon, stealthily posting to LJ rather than doing actual, you know, writing. That is because I just finished my appointed task # 1, making revisions to my Yuletide story. Go me!
We went to Chinatown earlier, and had dim sum at Empress Pavilion. We had sweet black sesame gelatin roll-ups, shrimp and scallop dumplings, cold roast duck on a bed of sweet-and-sour pickled cabbage, sticky mwaji stuffed with black sesame paste (not as good as the ones in Milbrae; yes, I love black sesame, that was one of the first words I learned in Japanese), and bell pepper halves stuffed with chopped shrimp and grilled. Yoon was disappointed that the green stuff in the latter proved to be pepper rather than the more intriguing green rice cake that she had imagined.
We had some trouble locating a waiter willing to bring a check. I finally went in search of one, and near his station I passed a lady wearing a hat comprised of three small white tiger plushies and a larger white tiger face wearing sunglasses. And some other stuff too. It was quite extraordinary. Leading Yoon past it, I explained, "This is why I love LA."
Later, when I dashed back to validate my parking ticket, I passed two teenage girls who wore a knitted scarf which was wrapped around each of their throats, and connected them with two feet or so between them.
We visited three anime/cool stuff stores. One had tons of little model thingies and art books, but we did not buy. One had some Gundam models, but only huge ones, and lots of bootleg DVDs, which we also did not buy. But one was having a sale on manga, and also on beautifully detailed little models of katana and koto and so forth. Yoon bought many volumes of Angel Sanctuary and three models, including a koto. I bought a katana, two volumes of Flower of Life, and a small gift for
rilina.
Then we stopped in a Chinese medicine store to buy Tiger's Balm ointment. The proprietor gestured to my face, which has broken out due to recent stress and that I have bad skin, and said, "Here! Try this tea! It is excellent for PIMPLES! Yes! A great PIMPLE cure!" He indicated on his face the parts of mine that had PIMPLES, in case I might be unaware of my condition.
If I had been sixteen, I think I would have rushed out and self-detonated; as it was, I picked it up and took a look. It cost thirty dollars, and the main ingredient was placenta. No thanks!
Then we watched Gundam Wing. Hopefully Yoon will post screen-caps tomorrow.
