The back cover and first chapter suggested that this series is metafiction about a teenage aspiring writer in which the fantasy he's writing bleeds into his real life. The rest of volume one, all of volume two, and most of volume three suggested that it's actually a rather dull high school romance with over-the-top melodrama, not terribly likable characters, and disturbing incest undertones. Part of volume three suddenly introduced much more intriguing material in a completely different genre -- and then it returned to standard shoujo romance plotting.
