It's brilliant, though the casting alone, for anyone familiar with the stars of that generation, was a spoiler (some actors you do not cast as minor characters...). Carina Lau was so iconic as Empress Wu that I think she's the go-to actress for the part now. She's done it at least one more time. And of course, Andy Lau continues to be ineffably cool (see him in "Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon").
