I liked it. It's a retelling of the Wells' novel. I've never read the original so I can't comment on similarities or differences but I very much doubt Wells spent time on indigenous rebellion or the fate of women in 19th century Mexican society and this book cares about both. I'd classify it as sci-fi (body)horror meets gothic romance.
