BLAME! has awesome art, is gorgeous, and is a perfect example of telling a story with a minimum of dialogue. It's also cyberpunk, and slightly confusing in places.
Monster is a brilliantly done thriller.
Suikoden III is a great fantasy epic.
NANA is clever and funny. I tend to mostly like sci-fi and fantasy, though. *g*
