I love Homicide. As you say, I gave up on NYPD Blue when the attitude to police brutality and general unprofessionalism changed from moral ambiguity to "We are your only shield against chaos, and you bleeding-heart liberal scum will NEVER GET IT!" I have a feeling the problem started when Sipowicz became by default the central viewpoint character because they kept losing the other actors.
