A circus came to town, and while all the town's children were happily watching, the Bengal tiger broke loose and ate the performing seal. Everyone was traumatized. The circus owners were going to shoot the tiger, but the oldest son convinced them to sell it to him instead and he kept it as a pet. In, I think, the barn.
You know, just in case a crazed rapist would escape from the jail and come after the family that had earlier put him away. In jail. Not in the barn.
