That particular book is written in a sort of faux-Water Babies Victorian fairytale style, which I found cutesy and annoying. The only other thing of hers I've tried to read was Palimpsest, which has a fantastic premise, but I couldn't get through the first few pages of that either. In that case, it wasn't so much twee as overblown - Tanith Lee times one billion.
