Whoops, you did too, and I agree with pretty much everything you wrote. The Shattering can be just as heavy-handed in places, made more obvious to me because it's set in an area where I grew up, and I know that it's very monocultural compared to what Summerton is described as being. But I found it exciting to read, even if some of the plot points were a little easy to guess.
