rachelmanija: (OTP LA: skyline)
([personal profile] rachelmanija Aug. 4th, 2014 11:02 am)
This post is for [livejournal.com profile] egelantier, [livejournal.com profile] somebraveapollo, and [livejournal.com profile] wordsofastory, to lure them to LA some day.

Pretty pictures of LA below cut. Yes, really. Also food and mysterious shoes.

Light beam

Is it a sunset, or is a signal to the alien mothership?

Roof party

Me at the roof party where I took the mothership photo. The fur was a loan from another party guest due to the surprising night chill; the giant (real) flower (a peony?) was from the flower crowns we made for ourselves. It was so heavy that it kept tipping into my eyes.

Random shoes

A bunch of new, unmatched shoes. I don't understand this. All the passersby stopped to examine the shoes and speculate. Best guess: a shoe salesman's discarded samples.

Peppers market close

Peppers market 1

Peppers market far

Bell peppers at the farmer's market (Mar Vista).

Tall tree

The street next to the farmer's market.

Halle burrata salad

Salad made with items purchased at farmer's market: raw corn, arugula, peaches, burrata (fresh soft mozzarella).

Sullivan's Canyon

Selfie at Sullivan's

Shoes on hike

Spring hike at Sullivan's Canyon. I went on a weekday, and saw almost no one else. It was very peaceful. I had a picnic, then sat on a fallen tree and read Francesca Forrest's excellent, magical epistolatory novel, Pen Pal. I tried to photograph myself on the tree, but had to settle for my feet.

Full moon

Full moon on the street where I live.

Hah! That dress is super cute but the GIANT PEONY FALLING ON YOU is adorable. Is it a real fur? I always want to wear one of those crazy vintage minks or stoats or whatever w the clip in their mouth but at the same time the idea totally grosses me out.

Oh, these are lovely! I like the contrast between the palm trees in the first photo and the more... not-desert trees in Sullivan's Canyon. I love the farmer's market too: so many colors! It's like jewels.

Also I am very jealous of parties where you make flower crowns! Your peony is gorgeous and the fur is awesome.

These are great pictures--and I love the crocheted tablecloth beneath the salad plates.

More parties should have flower crowns! Now I'm tempted to make a zinnia crown (our peonies are over, alas).

This post filled me with so much joy. And that's BEFORE I got to a certain part of it. In fact, when this post first went up, I was scrolling through, just loving all the pictures, and I got to one of the peppers, stopped there, and thought, I want to comment on this, stuck it in a tab… and didn't get any farther. Then your next entry went up, and I was commenting on that, and then lots of work happened, and before I knew it, it was 10:30 pm and I'd fallen asleep on the couch.

Fast forward to *now*, 2 am, I'm up, checking email, see a message from you, and think, Oh yeah! I loved that post! The LA photos! and I start composing this reply, STILL WITHOUT SCROLLING THROUGH TO THE END OF THE POST.

And then I happened to catch your photo of your feet, and I'm like, now what's this one? --and then I read what's right below :D

I still want to write you about how that first picture just makes me feel like flying, and how all the random abandoned shoes makes me think of this scene of abandonment (https://www.flickr.com/photos/86761435@N00/14810783576/lightbox/) I came across in my dad's town, but now I'm pleasantly distracted. That tree you're sitting on looks just like one near here that I practice getting over fear of height on (by walking along it). And I like the notion that I could enjoy all the flavors and multilingual sounds of urban Los Angeles, and in the same day hike in such lovely wild surroundings.

Thanks for the email. If you hadn't sent it, I might have written the whole comment without ever properly scrolling to the end of the entry, and I wouldn't have known what I was missing.

(P.S. Back to food though. That market! Those peppers and eggplants! … I want to be there. And that last photo. I can practically hear music and conversation.)

Your dress is so lovely! :) Thanks for the photos. The bell peppers at the market look amazing. Such wonderful colours!

AAAAAAAAAAAh these are so good. I LOVE the creepy/beautiful sky, and also your floral hair arrangement (and the dress! Man I love gauzy dresses. Also all dresses.). AAAAH the trees, I love magical winding trees that people perch on.

The shoes are excellent also. The wolf-keeping friend I mentioned an alleyway where free furniture appears periodically, without explanation. I mean, used sofas are more useful than unused unmatched shoes, but they're about equally baffling.

Love the giant peony! Also, that salad looks amazing... LA (or I guess more Santa Monica) was the first place I had burrata, and I have been ever so grateful.
