Sherwood and I were guests of honor at ConDFW this weekend. (I hope she has made it back, after an unfortunate Amtrak delay.)

Me before erotica panel: "If someone buys me a drink, this panel will be 200% more interesting." Photo taken after panel. It was an excellent apple-cucumber martini. I believe the panel was as interesting as promised.

The con was lovely. I met many cool people and got to discuss werewolves, Marines, PTSD, women in superhero comics, Stagecoach Mary Fields (a 6' African-American woman who fought a duel at a nunnery and had a standing sucker bet that she couldn't knock out any cowboy with one punch), Ethiopian aether chemists, PTSD, food in science fiction from cram to the blushful Hippocrene, and sex. Also, I got barbecue and Valar Morghulis beer. Good times.

Sounds like fun!

Are the arm braces decorative or functional? (Or I guess they could be both.)

To me they first suggested "carpal tunnel." If that doesn't prove I'm middle-aged I don't know what would.

Sadly, me too, I thought "Wow! Actual stylish wrist braces, at last!" Considering how many people have to wear such things, there ought to be some with style and interest.

There probably are some. Or at least ones you can put over the medically-necessary ones. I just assumed they existed and that Rachel is a person who, if she needed braces, would wear ones that looked cool.

Stagecoach Mary Fields is turning up everywhere lately. I hope the somebody you were talking to is writing A Thing about her. Also, do people think she and her nun friend were sisterly love or sweetheartly love?

Maybe now that I told him about her, he is. She came up on a panel on Westerns, when we were talking about how the real Wild West was more diverse than it's usually depicted in fiction.

ETA: I assumed sweetheartly. One doesn't generally fight a duel for a platonic friend.

Maybe the duel was less "sexual jealousy" and more "getting rid of a dangerous stalker"?

That sounds like lots of fun! I wish I'd been there.

Also, is Valar Morghulis actually a brand of beer? That's awesome.

It really is! And a very tasty one, too. No doubt brewed with the blood of one's enemies.

They've got even more Game of Thrones-related beers!

Ha, that's amazing! 'Iron Throne' sounds really tasty. Thanks for the link!
