In honor of the upcoming release of Rebel (Book 3).

Ask me anything about the series, the characters, the world, etc. Sherwood will be popping in too!

This post allows spoilers for Stranger but not Hostage. There is a spoilery post which allows spoilers for both books that are out now.

Ask questions here in this post!

Well, when we were writing Stranger (as a book), we hadn't yet gotten the entire concept for Hostage. So there's that. ;) Sherwood had the idea of "What if Voske has a teenage daughter, and she and Ross end up in hostage trade?"

When we were writing Hostage, the original plan was to have Felicite have a POV. We actually wrote a bunch of her chapters. However, her storyline didn't have much to do with the main story, it ruined the surprise of her nearly foiling the "release Kerry plot," and its actual climax was going to occur in Rebel, not Hostage. So we cut her chapters and put them into Rebel.

Also while writing Hostage, our original plan was to have Yuki not leave and be a POV character in Rebel. But when we got closer to the end, it felt more and more out of character for him to stick around, so we decided to have him leave and be gone for the next book.

Mr. Preston turned into a much more complicated character than we originally intended. He started out as a more straightforward antagonist-who-is-not-evil, and ended up a lot more than that.

This is great; thank you! I love seeing things like this. Something can seem like it would work for plot reasons, but not for character reasons, or vice versa.
