Today I trained for two hours (I am convinced that I completely suck, but I'm not making any firm judgments till I get over the car depression), wrote a Green Man review of CAVES OF BUDA, and wrote a letter to AAA begging them to reconsider. So I think I was reasonably productive, and hence have an excuse to list more Stuff For Trade. Again, unless other reasons are noted, I didn't like any of this enough to keep it, but tastes do differ.
THE CAVES OF BUDA, Hungarian urban fantasy by Leah R. Cutter (author of PAPER MAGE). An ambitious failure which I felt guilty about panning.
STRANGE BEDPERSONS, by Jennifer Crusie. A commune baby in a relationship with a Republican lawyer. I used to be a tolerant person, but I am convinced that anyone who would vote for Bush is voting for policies which will destroy America and lead to the deaths of people I love and maybe me. So I didn't warm up to this one, despite some good bits.
THORNYHOLD, by Mary Stewart. A sort of Gothic in the "girl meets house" sense, about a woman who inherits a house from her witchy godmother. A terrific beginning and middle lead to an end which I thought pulled way too many punches.
A WALK IN WOLF WOOD, by Mary Stewart. Slightly beat-up. A children's fantasy which I didn't get into.
THE LAST HERO IN CHINA. Jet Li kung fu movie on VHS. Subtitled.
"In a take-off of the legendary beginnings of many styles of kung fu in which a master-to-be gets ideas from watching animals, Wong Fei-Hung sees a chicken eat a centipede, and is inspired to dress up in a chicken suit to fight the Boxers' fire-breathing centipede. One of the weirdest kung fu matches ever follows. If you've ever wanted to see Jet Li cluck like a chicken, watching this movie is probably the only way your desire can be satisfied."

DOCTOR WAI AND THE SCRIPTURE WITH NO WORDS. Jet Li movie on VHS, directed by Ching Siu Tung of CHINESE GHOST STORY and HEROIC TRIO.
Amusing, ambitious, occasionally incoherent film in which Jet Li is a pulp adventure writer whose stories start melding with his life, and changing when other people sneak into his office and secretly rewrite his stories.
COWBOY BEBOP. First two episodes on VHS. Dubbed-- not at all a bad dub, but I've sworn off dubs, so it's getting traded.
VAMPIRE PRINCESS MIYU. First three episodes of the TV series. Dubbed, etc.
I almost put a few manga on here that I'd been underwhelmed with, but upon flipping through decided that I hadn't been quite underwhelmed enough to let go of them, especially since so many series get way better as they go on, and if volume three, say, is really great, then I'd be sorry I'd parted with volume one. Maybe next time.
