The second outfit should actually be the most comfortable on the list. ;-)
You might want to wear a little something Indian to connect you in people's minds with your book, but I'd be conscious of looking too much like you never left the country. Dunno.
I'd definitely bring layers if you're going to be spending any time in the exhibit hall. They tend to be freezing (says the woman who once worked a three day conference with a scarf and peacoat because her booth was underneath the a/c vent).
My instinct for Friday would be to wear something business appropriate (suit?) with Indian accents in your jewelry/accessories.
I vote for the elegant-yet-exotic kimono outfit for the nighttime, and something Indian-inspired for the Book Expo, in which you'll need to stand out more (but agree with rilina on keeping it more business-with-accents).
I agree that you should have a business-like attire, but made have a touch of India feel. How about that black jacket you have with the dark red/purple indian print on it? Subtle and nice. I do have a nice grey skirt and jacket outfit that no longer fits me, but I keep in the hopes that I'll one day be thin again. I'll lend that to you if you like. It would be a good all day thing to wear since the jacket is really heavy and will keep you warm in sitting under the a/c vents.
