I can't believe this is so difficult to find, but it is, so I'm soliciting advice. I want to get a set of solid-colored burgundy or medium-blue (ie, not baby and not navy) bedding for a full/double bed. I have checked Linens n' Things, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Kmart, and LL Bean. None of them have bedding in solid colors that isn't in some nasty-feeling slick fabric or in whore's boudouir pink. I understand that everyone else in America prefers patterns, but I do not. Help!

Yes, Overstock has 39 pages of bedding on their site, some of which is in colors like that.

Company Store. T-shirt jersey knit, solid colors. (http://www.thecompanystore.com/parent.asp?product=ee06x%5F9&dept%5Fid=3003)

If you don't like the jersey knit, the 220-thread Company Cotton bedding (http://www.thecompanystore.com/parent.asp?product=Ei13x%5F6&dept%5Fid=3001) is also wonderful (we have a set on our guest bed).

They also have scrummy scrummy flannel for wintertime.

And Land's End has excellent sheets, or at least they did about 10 years ago when I bought mine:

If you have a HomeGoods, Marshalls, or TJ Maxx near you, you might check them (all discount/clearance dept. stores).

Target online and JC Penney seem to carry some decent solids. Sears might also be an option.

Overstock looks like they do, too, but in the pricey range.

You could try dying your own, but that is messy.

Someone on my flist has beautiful dyed-cotton sheets from an online source, but I forget who, and they're more patterned than solid.

The Company Store makes glorious bedding--Pricey but solid cotton. (My mother is allergic to all synthetics, so my sister and I know all the all=cotton outlets.)

Definitely try Lands End. If you don't see the color you want, pick up the phone and call toll free; they have ware houses . . .

And you can try Wamsutta directly -- they own their own mills, and are major manufacturers.

the nicest is a down or down alternative comforter and a duvet cover - many duvet covers come plain. I too like plain. Nice, soft, plain sheets and comforter. I'm surprised that Bed, Bath and Beyond didn't have anything. Did you try Target? Good luck!

An additional query

How come the really high-thread count (as in 1000) sheets only come in white? White is such a dumb colour for sheets. I'm with you, Rachel, in wanting burgundy sheets.
