1. The heat wave is OVER.
2. I just finished revising the summary and three-book synopsis for Butterfly Kick, my beloved karate manga. ("Butterfly Kick follows the students of a Los Angeles karate dojo as they train, compete, and fall in love.") On to the summary and synopsis for Project Blue Rose. I will sell these manga yet!
3. While on a walk, I stopped at a garage sale and saw a beat-up paperback, something Falconhurst, with the tag, "In the tradition of MANDINGO!" I opened it, and... whoa... the point of view character was apparently a part-black man who was passing but hoped no one would see him naked because he had black spots, like a pinto pony. Uh, WHAT? Much use of the n-word, too. Then I looked at the back cover, which seemed to imply that it was a scathing expose of slavery. I was so flabbergasted that I thought of buying it, only 1) I had no money because I hadn't brought my purse, and 2) If I bought it, the people I bought it from would know that I had bought "In the tradition of MANDINGO!"
What the heck was that? Has anyone ever heard of it? I think I vaguely had heard of Mandingo as some notorious racist thing, but can recall no details.
