Yesterday I left the dojo in the late morning and went to my dojo pal D--'s condo to help fix it up for the Oscar party. The sky was gas flame blue and the palm trees stood out like postcards and the sun was bright bright bright but not too hot. There might as well have been a message written in cloud, "Rejoice that you live in Los Angeles!"
I had convinced D-- to host the party and let me invite my friends, as last year I held it at my place and he wouldn't come because he's allergic to cat hair and my living room is so small that if more than six people are there, they're sitting on each other's laps. D-- agreed on the condition that I help sweep up the dust and move the construction equipment. (It's being remodeled.)
So I went and swept and watched the sky through his huge picture windows, and we got burgers at the Firehouse, and then I went to the bookshop and picked up GRAVITATION 2 and a book of short stories by Vivian Vande Velde. But I'm actually now reading TRICKSTER'S CHOICE by Tamora Pierce from the library.
I got good news this weekend which I can't discuss just yet (watch this space for further details) but I would have been happy anyway. Friends and karate and sunlight and electric blue skies and manga and burgers with bacon and new books by favorite authors and the anticipation of pleasant parties: along with bishounen and D & D, they are a few of my favorite things.
