Here they are!

Ann Maxwell - Fire Dancer
George R R Martin - Thousand Worlds (A Song for Lya: And Other Stories)
Lois Duncan - Down a Dark Hall
BATTLE OF RED CLIFF PART 1 & PART 2 ENGLISH SUBTITLES - 2 DVDS
Sherwood Smith - Inda series
Vonda N. McIntyre - Dreamsnake

There was some technical trouble, so if you already made your nominations, you might want to check the current list of 2009 nominated fandoms to see if they're actually up.

If you haven't yet made your nominations, I note that Marjorie Liu's Dirk and Steele series, not to mention the Mahabharata and the Hong Kong movies So Close, Bride with White Hair, and Heroic Trio, have not as yet been nominated. I would offer all of those. Just saying.

Of the nominated list, I am especially excited to see Meredith Ann Pierce's gorgeous fantasy duology (I ignore the existence of the unnecessary and not good third book) The Darkangel (The Darkangel Trilogy), C. J. Cherryh's Rider at the Gate, Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run, Romance of Red Dust: Complete TV Series, Icelandic sagas, mythology - Indian, RPF (Real People Fic) - Heian Japan, the complete works of L J Smith, and Enid Blyton's Malory Towers AND St. Clare's boarding school books (and also her Magic Faraway Tree, which I am a little scared by since I once read - not, I think, on Yuletide - a Wishing Chair/vacuum cleaner story).

What did you all nominate? What were you most thrilled to see nominated? What are you still hoping will be nominated?

I am creating a giant, monstrous, bizarre house for something I'm writing. Without getting too in-depth regarding the premise, the house itself is very loosely inspired by the Winchester House, but is much weirder: a gigantic and somewhat hideous edifice largely constructed of gray rock and plonked down in the Hollywood Hills.

I need suggestions for weird features that might be amusing to write/read about, that could play into the plot or simply alarm the heroine.

Parameters: most of the house was constructed around the turn of the century, so no modern gadgets. Though there could be ill-fitting interfaces between the original structure and modern conveniences that were added later. The builder was enormously wealthy and extremely strange. Think surreal and creepy, like a Gothic novel on acid.

I already have staircases leading into solid walls, doors opening on to solid walls, secret passageways, trap doors, trompe l'oeil, clawed furniture, disquieting paintings, rooms with no entrances, nightengale floors, and areas that can only be accessed by flight.

Note: If you think you know what this is, yes, it's that one.

ETA: The house is not magical. Just weird.
