Ooh, judging from the worldbuilding discussion this is something I want to read. Do you know if I should start here, or one of the other books..?

You can, or you can start with Inda, which is a complete sub-series set in the same world.

Since this is the first book of three (all one story) and there is no sign of a pub date for the second or third books, I'd say, start with INDA. That series is all out! I hope you like it.
