Possibly this entry is more about recluttering. But my goal isn't to reduce my stuff, it's to love and enjoy my home, whether that means getting rid of stuff, acquiring new stuff, or rearranging stuff. Which is what "spark joy" is all about.
If you have moral objections to decluttering or do not wish to declutter your own place, please do not share those sentiments in comments. If you're a paid member, you can blacklist the decluttering tag for my DW and never even see these posts.
I am embarking on a new decluttering/home enjoying campaign, as the project had been sidelined and backslid by 1) me breaking my foot, 2) a whole lot of travel, 3) carpet fleas requiring me to move a ton of stuff around while de-fleaing. (The diatomaceous earth worked, but you need a lot of it and it gets everywhere.)
Photos below cut.
I gave away a lot of clothes, most of them extremely nice dresses and skirts that there is no way I will ever fit into again. One was a dress that was tight in HIGH SCHOOL. Believe it or not, it's still in near-perfect condition thirty years later, good Lord. I held my breath, squeezed into it, left the back unzipped, took a few memorial photos, and sent it off. (It's black velvet and very classic; I'd still wear it myself if I could.) I think I've mentioned that my cat sitter Ana has a project going with a friend to send stuff to El Salvador via shipping container? It's where they're from and the friend is personally distributing it. I hope some people there will love them as much as I did and enjoy having something fancy.
I have moved my stuffed animals to the closet, where I take out a couple in turn to live on my bed, rather than them all out and getting dusty on shelves. (Other bin is laundry.) I have also boxed some stuff so I can find it.

Current inhabitants of bed: Margaret the leafy sea dragon (from "The Laidly Worm"), Inkling the squid, and Paul the octopus (from the very dramatic ambassador in Children of Ruin).

I acquired a few new animals, as well as making some, in honor of my new series, Protection, Inc: Defenders, which features dinosaurs and magical pets. Here they all are with my jewelry boxes and a lovely hand-carved box I bought from a charmingly eccentric California expat on my Alaska trip.

I think the original cover of Dragonsinger was based on sea dragons, and to this day that is what I am convinced dragon heads should look like. All other interpretations are just wrong.

I did get rid of a few things, but most either got packed away to be brought out at a later date, rather like you're doing.
It's so much better than simply getting completely rid of things that may still hold some personal value for you.

I love decluttering talk, so definitely not doing that, but I had no idea this was a function of paid membership! Good to know.
Inkling and Paul are great! I love the idea of switching out animals on display, too.
my new series, Protection, Inc: Defenders, which features dinosaurs and magical pets
WAIT WHAT?! Excuse me, I'm off to buy that immediately.
