Good news: just look how huge my chard is now!

Bad news:

So, is this powdery mildew on the flat-leaf kale and the dill? If so, what should I do about it? The internet says to pick off the affected leaves, but that's most of the leaves and I'm afraid that would kill the entire plant.

How hard is your water, and do other plants have the same problem? This probably *is* mildew, but watering with hard water that evaporates quickly in a hot climate can produce a similar effect.

+1. I guess it depends partly upon how dry your weather will be during the next few days.

Where I am (damper, less hot, lots of powdery mildew), I can say that not evicting the early signs of mildew (there's no point for my locale) means that the plant starts dying anyway. Plucking leaves in case the plant can make new leaves with adequate/appropriate provision of water seems sensible, IMO.
