Spring froggie?

I just rescued a small spotted frog from the cats. It is the fifth frog I have rescued so far. I still can't figure out how they're getting in.

(I'm still in Mariposa. It would be far more of a mystery if I was in my second-floor apartment in LA.)

Frogs can squish themselves very flat. Almost like earthworms. So it probably needs just a small crack?

Ahhh I would freak out if I saw one. Although I would have to remove it (cats) and not keep it as a pet like I want to.

Aw, man, I envy you--I never seen frogs anymore. Though I wouldn't want to be trying to rescue them from the jaws of grey and white death that lives here.

Is it a frog? It looks more like a toad to me, but I am no batrachian expert.

The pictured critter is a toad; it and Erin are having a socially distanced visit on different sides of a sliding door. The little guys I rescued were frogs.
