Where are you going today?

I'm hiking in Peru, beside a rushing stream. It looks a bit chilly, but I brought a warm coat and a thermos of hot cider.

I got an Oculus Quest VR thing when the pandemic started, and one of the apps is basically google street view, only you get to feel as if you're actually walking around inside of the scene. It's been AWESOME.

Inasmuch as you just kind of teleport to the next spot instead, yes. (I misspoke a little above-- it's not precisely 'walking' around like you can in other apps, because of the limitations of google street view itself. But the scene feels like it exists around you in a way that regular street view does not. It would be amazing if you wanted to check out a place you were writing about, for example.)

What a cool thing! I'm not set up to post pictures to DW, but it showed me a very pretty bike path in den Hague. As it randomizes through time as well as space, the path went through autumn with the leaves just starting to change color, even though it's snowing in today's Hague. (And 3 hours after sunset, so I couldn't see the leaves even if they were still on the trees.) So don't worry about traveling at a bad time!

It took me a while to get off featureless highways, but on my third try I landed in a little Cambodian village, which looked like a pleasant place.

Now that I've figured out how to save links, here's my Cambodian village:

This makes me miss travel so much. (The feature that really says Peru to me is the lines of old terraces up the mountain slopes).

Oh, what a lovely game! First try got me somewhere a bit nondescript in suburban Belgium, a copse of trees between some houses. But I rolled the teleporter again and ended up on a rather charming lane somewhere near Cork, Ireland. I'm probably admiring the magnificent sky while looking for a more sensible footpath / trail that would get me off the road.

This may be the actual house of some people I used to know in Cork.

Looks like the location is "Hameau de Stoqueu, 4920 Aywaille, Belgium."

I'm apparently waiting for a bus after enjoying an afternoon cafe/restaurant meal/drink, in Slovenia. (Because I do, actually, enjoy taking the local public transportation.)

This is Jessenice, in specific, which has nice hiking sites and a museum dedicated to ironworks and the workers' movement. Solidarity!
