Yesterday I went berserk in a nursery and purchased...

A ginkgo

A scarlet oak

A Bartlett pear

A stand of four birches

Also a Satsuma plum tree which I need to either return, exchange, or buy another of; post-purchase, I discovered that it won't fruit unless I have second Satsuma plum.

I also bought two raspberry bushes (currently fruiting!) and a blueberry bush. Also a bunch of bulbs.
And at that point I forcibly hurled myself out of the shop.

My vote is get a second one! Fresh plums are so yummy.

I'd get another plum cultivar for cross-pollination. Apparently there are some that are self-fertile in a limited way, which might be a good way to hedge your bet on those?

Unhelpfully, I favor re-crossing the shop's event horizon and buying yourself another plum tree.

I will join my voice to the multitudes encouraging you to get a second plum tree.

Also, please tell me that you're going to get into hobbyist tree grafting so you can make yourself a Tree Of Forty Fruits. (I'm given to understand that tree grafting is more approachable than one might expect, for the home gardener...)

I love this energy. Someday maybe I will be able to have trees!

(I'm still salty that Hurricane Ida killed our backyard crabapple/cherry/pear/peach/plum/??? before it got a chance to fruit this winter.)

LOL! I'm on a binge of buying succulents. I'm making a succulent forest on this counter on my desk. It's up above the desk, and I think having colorful pots full of easy to care for plants will be cool. I'll find out!

Impressive! Does the current forest let through enough light for light-loving fruit trees and raspberry bushes? (I had a couple of straggly raspberry bushes at a previous house, until the elm tree that shaded them was condemned for having Dutch Elm disease. After that, I got pints and pints every year, and they threatened to take over the backyard.)

I have birches in my yard and they are very popular with the birds! There's always half a dozen rosellas hanging out eating from them.

Birches are so very pretty, but they do drop sap. But if you're not putting them anywhere near your car or whatever else you don't want birch glop on, it doesn't much matter. I've always wanted a bit of land to put all my favorite messy trees on (mountain ash is another example - all those berries on the sidewalk).

Tree shopping sprees are the best shopping sprees. You should definitely get a second Satsuma plum. Though are you sure? I was told the same thing about apple trees but mine fruits on its own.

Congratulations on your new trees! I guess you're... putting down roots.

Much envy for tree-buying. Perhaps one of your neighbours has a satsuma? How close do they have to be?

One day....

I came here to say, we're all voting for the second plum tree, right?

"Plum tree" was one of my nicknames in high school, because I was adamant about being asexual and aromantic. I guess only some kinds of plum trees?

Yesterday was plainly a Good Day. Though I can well understand how you had to hurl yourself forth.

Sooo, get the second plum. And another blueberry bush to better even the odds of fruiting.

Get a second Pear too- you will want the genetic diversity, otherwise, the one you have may end up crossing with any potential Bradford reverted to Callery Pears in the vicinity.

As far as the Gingko, I believe the females fruit? But you need a male Gingko for that, so better get a second one of those too.

And Oaks always look great singly, but spectacular in pairs.

I know, I'm an enabler.

Also- what bulbs did you get? Huh? Huh?

It all sounds AMAZING though!
