I immediately pictured him going berserk with a semiautomatic in the Oval Office when I read the headline, but sadly, the actual story is less dramatic:

"Harry was in the line of fire and got peppered pretty good."

Still, how many countries in the last fifty years have ever had one of their presidents/vice presidents/prime ministers shoot someone while serving in office? Truly America is the most gun-crazy second-most sure-fire producer of excellent headlines, after Japan greatest country in the world!

Apparently he shot A LAWYER. A 78-year-old Republican lawyer who co-owns the ranch they were QUAIL SHOOTING at, apparently (how the fuck do you confuse a human being, even a 78-year-old Republican one, with a quail?). But A LAWYER nonetheless.

She said emergency personnel traveling with Cheney tended to Whittington until the ambulance arrived.
....
"Fortunately, the vice president has got a lot of medical people around him and so they were right there and probably more cautious than we would have been," she said. "The vice president has got an ambulance on call, so the ambulance came."

WTF? WTFF? Why does the veep have emergency personnel traveling with him AND an ambulance on call? Oh yeah, that's cause he's the one who actually RUNS THE COUNTRY, that's why. Or rather, him and Rove. I imagine they divided the US up like Spain and Portugal sussing out territory.

That was my reaction when I saw the news. Actually it was more like "Cheney? As in... Dick Cheney? No way."

But it was!

My brother (who's only 17) claims that he'd vote for Bush just for the entertainment value of his government.

Ummm, I'm speechless

Words, was your brother an advisor for Daddy Bush's regime? Does that explain spud-boy Quayle? Quail shooting???

At least we know Cheney is alive now. I wasn't sure. But from the quote, "Harry was in the line of fire..." I thought perhaps there would be an international incident if he'd hurt Prince Harry.

Hee!

I am *terribly* impressed. But how can Harry be in the line of fire and Cheney not see him?

My first question actually was if the lawyer had changed his politics lately?

By a) Harry not announcing his presence as he returned to the group and b) Dick turning to follow fleeing quail with his gun.

I still don't get it - if you are following the quail with your gun, surely you can see a human between the gun and the quail?

By focusing on the moving target. It really is a typical stupid hunting accident.

Ok. I don't know anything about hunting so I'll take your word for it. :)
