Started my car to leave. Engine made a very unsettling sound. Car is now in the shop to be checked. If I don't get it back either fixed or okayed to make the drive within two hours max, I will have to cancel the plumber who was going to meet me today to turn my water back on, and when I get to go back home will depend on his schedule.

You have a Subaru, right? I had a lot of electrical system problems with my 2017 Subaru Forester. There was a successful class action suit because unaccountable battery failure and other weird stuff was happening across several years of models. If you need to buy a new battery, or anything of the sort, keep the receipt and maybe you can get it reimbursed.
