Here's the Yuletide collection.

If you're the sort of person who shakes presents, it's possible to shake Yuletide stories before they open. Here's how you do it.

First, click on the fandom tag. I'll use Dragonriders of Pern as an example. Then go to the sidebar on the left and click on the tags.

By clicking on "characters," I can see that Lessa, F'lar, and Menolly are featured in two stories (but I can't tell if it's the same two stories or different ones), and that Mirrim is in one story. You can click on relationships, which shows me that I can happily anticipate one story featuring Kylara/Lessa and one featuring Menolly & Mirrim (probably not the same story). And "Additional Tags" shows me that two stories feature canon divergence AUs, plus one tag each for hurt/comfort, future fic, and worldbuilding.

Have you shaken any stories? What are you happily anticipating in the collection? What wank do you anticipate will occur?

In addition to my gifts which look AMAZING, I am excited to see those seven Pern stories, Mr. Burns: an Electric Play, and stories for "Eleanor Rigby," Equus, Earthsea, Emelan, the Expanse, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Jean Auel's Earth's Children - and that's in E alone!

The link labeled "Here's the Yuletide collection." actually goes to example.com.

I'll be madly writing treats the moment I can make myself leave my actual assignment alone. I'm currently going through its umpteenth edit!

I picked unwanted politics as this year's wank, but honestly, there'll probably be multiple kinds.

I may have shaken the Biggles stories, which has left me with very eager anticipation of my gift. :D

I wasn't feeling the Yuletide Spirit during signups and so didn't sign up, and then October through the first half of December were taken up with Bad Times, but twelve days ago I decided to start writing a Christmas fic set in a human AU where I've written a couple of other stories, and what with one thing and another it's pushing 10K and I'm nowhere near done, so despite! not! doing! Yuletide! And greatly looking forward to prowling through the collection tomorrow! I am in fact frantically trying to finish a fic before Christmas. XD

The way to shake your gift and know it's your gift: go to your /gifts page, view source, search for "mystery work". In the code, there will be an ID number. My gift's ID number shown in the code is: li id="work_52328410" class="mystery gift work blurb group work-52328410" role="article"

Then go to https://archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2023/works. In the sidebar, go to Search within results. Put in id: [the ID]. So for my gift, I put in id: 52328410

I can now see whatever tags there, and can do further filtering, such as putting in word count to see at what point the gift vanishes; if it's no longer shown, that's not the word count it has. So start with 1K-2K, narrow it down further, etc.

Our team put in a lot of work to forestall wank - I hope it does the job!

I have skimmed many stories I'm very much looking forward to reading more thoroughly. There are some delightful fics out there waiting for their recipients.

Okay, back to this treat...

I mean I both respect the work you must have put in, and appreciate it.

But I also feel like keeping yuletide particips from finding something to wank about is like trying to stop the tide. I hope I'm wrong! But.

Let's just say that there are wanks we would be emoji shrug about, wanks that would hurt people, and wanks that might involve cease and desist orders, and we are doing our best to wave our hands like airport ground crews towards the former.

Letting the extra thousand or so words I added to my assignment yesterday in response to beta comments marinate for a bit longer before giving them a good thorough SPAG and the whole thing one last polishing pass.

And resisting shaking my gift fic. I like surprises! And yet it's so tempting...

(Note: Just to be clear, I completely support other people shaking their gifts! It's just my own preference to maintain the surprise for myself as long as possible.)

If I shook my shook correctly, I've been requesting this ship forever without success! So yay. As for what I'm working on, I appreciate that you assume I'm done editing🙃.

I'm hoping that this year's wank is something entertaining, like dewclaws, instead of real-world awful like Nazis or last year's racist historical RPF high school football AU.

(I did not feel up to Yuletide this year, but I'll be reading.)

I have shaken my gifts and am now making dog_stares_longingly_at_cupcakes.gif eyes at them. I would love to bang out a couple short treats for a friend too, but we'll see if that happens...! Either way they'll probably go into the belated treats bonanza collection rather than in Yuletide or Madness, so.

I don't follow Yuletide closely (okay, I check to see if my book is there, and it hasn't been), but plz link to the wank when it happens?
